POSITION SUMMARY:

The Snowmaking team is dedicated to producing a world-class snow product at Arapahoe Basin. The Snowmaking Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the daily operations of the Snowmaking department. You will lead a team while executing safety best practices and maintaining a fun, positive attitude in a challenging high-alpine environment. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance administrative duties with field-based technical execution. This leader will hire, train, supervi se, and provide overall staff development as well as plan, implement, and monitor budgets.

WAGE:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high ends of Arapahoe Basin's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors , including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, and responsibilities. The range listed is just one component of Arapahoe Basin's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.

Salary range: $63,440 - $98,280/year

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee all snowmaking operations, ensuring high-quality snow production through expert training and delegation.


  • Plan and coordinate snowmaking projects; communicate progress directly to the VP of Mountain Operations.


  • Hire, train, and supervise snowmaking staff. Handle all administrative functions including onboarding, scheduling, payroll, training, and performance evaluations.


  • Manage payroll, budget, and scheduling for the snowmaking department.


  • Oversee the care and safe operation of snowmaking equipment, snowmobiles, and related machinery.


  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment and report issues to VP of Mountain Operations.


  • Strategic planning in conjunction with VP of Mountain Operations to ensure maximum snow production and quality assurance.


  • Ensure the capability of snowmaking operations including mechanical readiness, proper staffing and training, and proper deployment.


  • Manage and track the costs of operations, including energy consumption and operational performance.


  • Assist in planning of future snowmaking expansion and design.


  • Work closely with other mountain departments to ensure seamless resort operations.


  • Attend staff meetings and lead pre-shift and weekly safety meetings.


  • Train and encourage employees to actively participate in sustainability initiatives and support them in maintaining sustainable practices.


  • Perform other duties as assigned


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 seasons of experience in snowmaking


  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience


  • Grooming experience - preferred


  • Electrical and mechanical aptitude


  • Ability to operate a variety of machinery while abiding by operating procedures on all snowmaking equipment


  • Strong leadership skills with ability to promote a positive work environment


  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills


  • Organizational skills with strong attention to detail


  • Proficiency in Microsoft with ability to learn HRIS system (Workday)


  • Must be available nights, weekends , and holidays


  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal and Motor Vehicle Record background check


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent - required


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Use full range of body motion: bend, twist, kneel, push, pull and lift up to 50-100 lbs.


  • Ability to stand, walk, and navigate uneven surfaces throughout a 10 hour shift.


  • Ability to physically operate power tools and hand tools


  • Ability to visually and audibly inspect machinery for irregularities


  • Ability to work outside while standing or skiing/riding in high alpine, wintery conditions

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position will work mostly at night in a cold, snowy, and high-alpine environment. 100% of this job is done outside. Noise levels of machinery are high. Skiing or snowboarding and riding a snowmobile is required for this role. Lifting, bending, and stooping movements are frequent. The level of strenuous activity for this role is considered to be high.
